\nThis blade is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among the works of Kikumon Ise no Kami Fujiwara Kiyokata.
\nHabaki: Double-layer gold-covered habaki.
\nBlade Length: 69.55 cm (27.38 in).
\nCurvature: 0.0 cm (0.00 in).
\nMekugi Hole: 3.
\nWidth at Base (Motohaba): 2.27 cm (0.89 in).
\nThickness of rim (Kasane): 0.63 cm (0.25 in).

\nEra: Mid Edo period, H\u014dreki 4 (1754).
\nShape: A robust katana with wide mihaba and substantial thickness.
\nThe kissaki is slightly elongated.
\nJigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with the grain pattern clearly visible.
\nHamon: Nie-deki gunome-midare with prominent texture and active ashi.
\nBoshi: Midare pattern turning back in a small round form (komaru).
\nAshi are very active throughout.<\/p>\n

Features: Ise no Kami Fujiwara Kiyokata was a student of Iga no Kami Kinmichi and was active in Satsuma.
\nA chrysanthemum crest (kikumon) is engraved above the signature.
\nThis chrysanthemum crest closely resembles that used by Iga no Kami Kinmichi.
\nSatsuma swords are often characterized by their robust construction and hamon featuring prominent ara-nie.<\/p>\n

Historical Background: H\u014dreki 4 (1754) was during the middle of the Edo period and is particularly noted for major historical events, especially the severe flood-control works imposed upon the Satsuma Domain.
\n\u2022 H\u014dreki Flood Control Project (commencement): By order of the Tokugawa shogunate, the Satsuma Domain began river improvement works on the Kiso Three Rivers (the Kiso, Nagara, and Ibi Rivers) in the N\u014dbi Plain on February 27, 1754.
\nThis project, known as the H\u014dreki Flood Control Works, became infamous as an extremely difficult undertaking that imposed enormous financial burdens and human sacrifices upon the Satsuma Domain due to the shogunate\u2019s coercive orders, resulting in numerous deaths from illness and more than 80 retainers who took their own lives in protest against the harsh treatment they received.<\/p>\n
