\nHizen Koku Tadayoshi was a swordsmith lineage of Saga that lasted through 9 generations from the early Edo period to the Meiji period, and this particular piece is believed to be the work of the first generation based on its shape.
\nThe 1st-generation Tadayoshi traveled to Kyoto to study under Umetada Myoju, later returning to Saga where he served as an official swordsmith for the Saga domain.
\nHe is renowned as the foremost swordsmith of the Hizen school and is known for producing blades with excellent sharpness, earning the designation of \u014cwazamono (great cutting ability).
\nThis piece appears to be an early work of the first generation and features a hamon with variations reminiscent of koto (old swords), making it an enjoyable blade.<\/p>\n
