The Goto family traditionally specialized in crafting sword fittings and served the Ashikaga shogunate during the Muromachi period. After the fall of the Ashikaga clan, Tokujo went on to serve Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Notably, beyond sword fittings, he was also involved in producing oban gold coins and weight measures used for weighing gold and silver.
