\nShape:A well-proportioned piece with a wide body, remaining ubu-ha (original edge), and relatively deep curvature.
\nThe boshi (tip) is extended, contributing to the attractive overall shape.
\nJigane:Well-forged ko-itame hada that becomes close to muji-hada.
\nHamon:Nie-deki with small gunome-midare, continuing in fine gunome-midare all the way to the yokote.<\/p>\n

Features:Well-made works by Minamoto Teruhide are rare, and this is considered to be a piece that was crafted with great care and dedication.
\nAs World War II ended in August 1945, this sword was made only three months before the end of the war.
\nWe can only imagine what the swordsmith was feeling at the time\u2014his sincere effort is evident in the blade.<\/p>\n

Koshirae: Hantachi Koshirae
\nTsuba: Thin, oval-shaped tsuba with leaf carvings. Signed \u201cUmetada.\u201d
\nFuchikashira: Iron with wave motifs carved.
\nSaya (Scabbard): Reddish brown saya.
\nMenuki: Carving believed to depict an octopus.<\/p>\n

Aoi Art\u2019s Comment: Teruhide was a swordsmith from Saitama Prefecture, also known as Ihara Kametaro.
\nHe was a former Army-appointed swordsmith and honored master of the National Institute.
\nSelected by the Army Technical Encouragement Society.
\nBorn in 1902.<\/p>\n
