\nThis piece is ranked as Jyo Saku (above average work) among the works attributed to Koyama Munetsugu (Mumei).

\nShape: A wide and thick blade with a robust appearance, featuring double grooves (futatsu-suji-hi) on both sides.
\nJigane: Ko-itame-hada, well-forged with visible grain.
\nHamon: Ko-nie based gunome-midare with active ashi. The boshi turns back roundly.<\/p>\n

From Aoi Art\uff1aMunetsugu Koyama, who resided in Mutsu Province, Shirakawa in Oshu, was an active swordsmith and a student of Koyama Munetsugu.
\nHe was also known by the name Hakuryushi and learned sword-forging techniques well from his master, sometimes even surpassing him in the quality of his works.
\nHowever, with the arrival of the Meiji era and the issuance of the Hait\u014drei (Sword Abolishment Edict), he was forced to give up swordsmithing.
\nHe passed away in 1888 at the age of 53.<\/p>\n
