The reverse side is dated May, Genji 1 (1864). The upper section has a well-defined hamon in ko-gunome-midare. The kissaki shows gunome-midare, returning in a komaru style.

Aoi Art’s Comment: Tairyuusai Sokan lived in Fukagawa Hakozaki, Edo, and is said to have been a student of Koyama Munetsugu. He produced wide, robust blades, and some works show utsuri. His early works were often in the style of Koyama Munetsugu, but later he developed a distinct style with ko-gunome-midare featuring aligned heads and utsuri throughout. His works resemble those of his master Munetsugu and are typically well-crafted, with few flaws. This piece has rust on the tang where the signature is, which is regrettable, but the upper part is in good condition and is recommended.

NBTHK Hozon Token Certificate
Aoi Art estimation paper: Oshigata

</a

Ordering number:AS25308 Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon Token) Signature: Tairyuu (remainder illegible) (Made by Tairyuusai Sokan) Genji 1Nen (May,1864) 泰龍斎宗寛造之 元治元年五月 Shinshinto: Jyo Saku: Musashi We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku and Regular Saku.
