\nSori (Curvature): 2 bu 5 rin (\u2248 0.76 cm \/ 0.30 inches)

\nShape:This piece is a naginta-naoshi with an original nakago.
\nThe signature remains completely intact.
\nThe curvature is 2 bu 5 rin, and a part of the nakago has been cut.
\nJigane (Steel Surface):A well-forged itame-hada mixed with mokume-hada, forming a fine texture.
\nUtsuri is clearly visible.
\nHamon (Temper Line):A nioi-based, soft ko-gunome-midare with active ashi and ha.
\nThe boshi is pointed and returns gently.
\nUpon closer inspection, there are sunagashi and kinsuji, showing remarkable craftsmanship.<\/p>\n

Features: This sword is listed in the Nihonto Taikan, recorded on page 180 of the Koto Volume 2.
\nThe inscription “Bizen no Kuni Ukai J\u016b Unju\/Joji 4 Mei Kiri ” is carved on the tang.
\nA rare feature of this sword is the engraved date inscription.
\nIt was carefully preserved as a daimyo-registered wakizashi, as indicated by the registration certificate issued on March 14, 1951.<\/p>\n

Koshirae (Mountings)
\nTsuba: A round iron tsuba with a gold-finished rim.
\nThe signature reads “Motokazu Nyudo Soten” (\u85fb\u5510\u5b50\u5b97\u5178\u5165\u9053\u64cd\u5178\u88fd).
\nFuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with high-relief chrysanthemums and warriors, accentuated with gold inlays.
\nSaya (Scabbard): Dark brown with fan-shaped black carvings at the tip.
\nKojiri: Iron base with an insect design, possibly a beetle, with gold inlays.
\nMenuki: Shakudo base with high-relief chrysanthemums.
\nSignature: “Hanaji J\u016b Nagamine” (\u82b1\u8def\u4f4f \u6c38\u5cf0).
\nKozuka: Suaka (red copper) ground with high-relief chrysanthemums, decorated with gold inlays.<\/p>\n

Aoi Art\u2019s Comment: The Nihonto Taikan is a well-respected and comprehensive reference book that extensively covers historical Japanese swords.
\nIt is a voluminous resource, but highly recommended for study.
\nThis piece demonstrates the beauty of jigane, the softness in the hamon, and the vivid sunagashi and kinsuji.<\/p>\n
