of Katou Izumi no kami Kunihide. He worked as a swordsmith of Uesugi family,
the owner of Dewa Yonezawa domain. He studied Douranba Hamon and Bizenden
at Suishinshi Masahide in Edo with his elder brother Kato Tsunahide.
Tsunahide made many Douranba pieces but most of those not good as the ones
made by Masahide. Some of his good pieces are BIzenden with Gunome Midare.
He had many students like Koyama Munetsugu, Takahashi Naganobu and Seiryuken Moritoshi.
Especially he was intimate with Seiryuken Moritoshi, so that his son,
2 generation Tsunatoshi went to Suo province, in which Seiryuken Moritoshi lived,
to study sword making from him several times.
His hamon is very similar to the ones of Koyama Munetsugu’s works,
however they had also differences. Tsunatoshi makes Gunome-Midare hamon
with its upper side like flowers bloom but Munetsugu’s hamon doesn’t.
And the boshi hamon of Munetsugu’s works often Midarekomi style,
but Tsunayoshi’s turns back round.
