Special feature:In the Muromachi period, Harima, Mimasaka and Bizen province had been prospered under the protection of the Akamatsu family(Shugo Daimyo family). Above all, Bizen province has produced many great talented swordsmiths. Supplying the demand of the Age of Provincial Wars in Japan, a large number of swords were made there in the late Muromachi period. Sukesada has become a synonym for the Osafune School though the founder was Mitsutada. Unfortunately a flood destroyed the School in Osafune districts in Tensho era, and after that a disciple, Yoshii Ju Sukesada went to Osafune and called himself as “Yokoyama” to make school revive. This work tells us the very last prosperity of Osafune swordsmiths. The greatness which only the swords made in many months and years have can be felt by it.

From Aoi Art: This work “Sukesada” is treated as mass productive sword, but it is made very well, especially Jigane has a clearness of Eisyo era’s. After running through the year Tensho 8, in which it was still in big wars, we have only one Mekugi hole at Nakago, which is in relatively good condition and this work has been carefully preserved until now. Wild and rough taste on Hamon by Tobiyaki near Habaki moto reminds us of the situation at that time. We highly recommend this Sukesada for you. The blade has experienced around 440 years and keeps its healthy beauty on Ubu nakago with one hole.
