This sword belongs to Jyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : copper single habaki.
Blade length : 18.2 cm or 7.16 inches.
Sori : 0 cm or 0 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 1.86 cm or 0.73 inches.
Kasane : 0.55 cm or 0.21 inches.
The weight of the sword: 95 grams.
Era : End of Edo period.
Shape : Small but thick sword.
Jigane : Itame-Hada well grained.
Hamon : Suguha Hamon with Uchinoke. Hadadatsu.

Special feature: This Tanto is Mumei. The Tsuba’ signature is Hosokawa Masanaga. We guess that the blade was made by same maker. The Yasurime of the Nakago is similer the Hosokawa school’s one.

Koshirae :
Saya : Kawarinuri Saya.
Tsuba : Mokko shape Iron Tsuba, arabesque is engraved.
signature: Hosokawa Masanaga Zo. He was a 4th son of Hosokawa Masayoshi. He passed away in 1922.
He is also a swordsmith.
Menuki : Ebisu and Daikoku god are engraved with gold color.
Fuchi: Shakudo Nanako, family crest is engraved with gold color.
Kashira: Black horn.

From Aoi Art: This blade is in the Koshirae. The Tsuba’s signature is Hosokawa. And also, the Yasurime of Nakago is very similar to Hosokawa school. So we think that the blade was made by Hosokawa Masanaga. Since he rarely made swords, it is probable that he made his own brim and also made daggers.
