Dai : Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae(NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token)

Signature : Mumei (Ko Mihara)

This sword belongs to yo Jyo Jyo Saku ranking.
Koyu was connoisseur of Hon-ami family,
in which Mitsutada was appreciated.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 70.15cm or 27.6inches.
Sori :2.73cm or 1.07 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 3.15cm or 1.24inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.12cm or 0.83inches.
Kasane : 0.71cm or 0.27inches.
The weight of the sword : 675grams.
Era : Mid Nanbokucho period
Shape : This sword is suriage mumei.
The blade is wide and thick with deep sori and long kissaki.
Bo-hi is engraved on both sides of blade.
Jigane : Koitame and Mokume hada mix and well grained with jinie attach.
There are pale shirekeutsuri and soft texture.
Hamon : Niedeki clear suguha and rather weak fine kinsuji.
Boushi is round shape and hakikake style.

The Mihara is the sword school that was active in the Mihara area of Bizen province
from the late Kamakura to Nanbokucho period. Masaie and Masahiro were representative swordsmiths of the school.
In the Mihara area, there were some manors of Yamato province therefore it’s believed that the Mihara school swords had the relationship with some schools in Yamato and this is why the school’s sword have some characteristics of Yamato swords.
The older swords by the school are called Ko Mihara.

Habaki : Gold foiled single habaki.
Blade length : 48.03 cm or 18.91inches.
Sori :1.21cm or 0.47 inches.

Width at the hamachi : 2.69cm or 1.06 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.68cm or 0.66inches.
Kasane : 0.52cm or 0.20inches.
The weight of the sword 335grams.
Era : Muromachi period Ouei era
Shape : This sword is slightly small wakizashi.
It has regular wide and thick blade with deep sori
and kissaki is long. There are bo-hi on both sides of blade.
Jigane : Mokume hada well grained with jinie attach.
There are chikei and clear utsuri.
Hamon : Niedeki, choji midare, gunome midare mix.
Bo-shi is midarekomi-boushi.

Special feature: There are first and second generation of Bishu Osafune Morimitsu,
and this sword is the work of the first Osafune Morimitsu. 
He is said to be the best swordsmith of Ouei and also Yasumitsu,
the work of them are called “Ouei Bizen”.
Ouei Bizen have great jigane that we can see as Ouei Bizen just
by looking jigane. The first Morimitsu is a famous
swordsmith and it is difficult to obtain his work.

From Aoi-Art: Ouei bizen is unrivaled for its high quality jigane.
Though this sword is 600 years old and has some small cracks in the Ha.
The sword doesn’t have much damaged . Mei and Yasurime
are very clear. Props are also great and I think this koshirae matches well Morimitsu.

I think these Daisyo set were belongings of high-class samurai or Daimyo.
