Yamashiro Koku Eai Kunimitsu Osuriage Mumei, made
around Karyaku era, good peace. Length is 2 Shaku 3 Sun
1 Bu (69.69cm).

This sword belongs to Saijyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.

Habaki : Gold color single Habaki.
Blade length : 69.69 cm or 27.43 inches.
Sori : 1.4 cm or 0.55 inches.
Mekugi : 4 
Width at the hamachi : 3.0 cm or 1.18 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.3 cm or 0.9 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
The weight of the sword 730 grams.

Era : Kamakura period Kanryaku era 1326
Shape : O-suriage Mumei, wide and thick, O-kissaki and also deep Sori. There is Chikei.
Thin Gomabashi is engraved on frontside, sword and 4 surcle are engraved on back side
Shigane: Itame Hada mixed with Masame Hada
Jigane :Ko-Itame-hada and Masame-hada mixed. There is Chikei
Hamon :Niedeki Suguha, Deep Nioikuchi with Koashi. Thin Sunagashi and Kinsuji worked.
Boshi: Notare round shape Hakikake style.

Special feature:It is said that Rai Kunimitsu was a son of Rai Kunitoshi in Yamashiro province.
Kunimitsu’s dated swords from 1326 to 1351 still survive.
He was very skillful swordmsith who had a wide range of styles among the swordsmiths of Rai School.
This katana is a superb one of Rai Kunimitsu that shows an impressive texture of jitetsu
on its strong appearance. Attractive temperline of the reverse side is excellently done.
It is slightly influenced by Soshu style. Generally the Rai School
shows more imposing shape than Awataguchi or Sanjo in Kyoto.
Five fine tantos of Rai Kunimitsu were mentioned in Kyoho-Meibutsucho,
a commentary of celebrated swords written and edited by the Hon-ami family
and submitted to the Tokugawa shogunate. It indicates that Kunimitsu had already
the reputation of excellent swordsmiths at that time.

Koshirae :
Saya : Inro Kizami style. good conditon.
Tsuba :On Shakudo nanako plate, 4 Shishi dogs are engraved with gold color, edge is gold Fukurin style.
Menuki : Shishi dog is engraved with gold color.
Fuchikashira: On Shakudo Nanako plate, Shishi dog is engraved with gold color (maybe pure gold)

From Aoi Art: This sword is Mumei atrributed as Rai
Kunimitsu. this is masterpiece passed NBTHK Juyo Token 2020.
wide and thick, O-kissaki and also deep Sori.
There is a simple carving, no flaws and Itame-hada and Mokume-hada of Kamakura period.
One of Living human treasure Go Munazuki Honami Nissui said this sword is Rai Kunimitsu and NBTHK also had a same judge.
Koshirae has nice Saya and fittings are arrange with Shishi dogs. We recommend this sword as family treasure.
