Explanation:This Gassan Tadakazu made this sword in August Keio Gennen (1865).

saku)
Fujishiro To-Ko jiten:shinshin-to:Jyo Jyo saku:Settsu.
This sword belongs to Jyo Jyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold color copper single Hanaki
Blade length : 70.15 cm or 27.62 inches.
Sori :0.9 Cm or 0.354 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 3.2 cm or 1.26inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.3 cm or 0.9inches.
Kasane : 0.8cm or 0.315 inches.
The weight of the sword 852 grams.
Era : Late Edo period Keio era 1865.
Shape : The blade is wide and thick with small sori and long kissaki and also heavy healthy blade.
Jigane :Koitame hada well grained with jinie attach beautiful Jigane.
Hamon :Niedeki cyoji midare hamon with many ashi work.
Bo-shi is midarekomi and turns back.

Special feature: Sadakazu the First who went by the name of Yagoro was
born in 1836 at Hikone in Koshu province, present Shiga pref. He
became an adopted son of Gassan Sadakichi who lived at Osaka.
Sadakazu started to learn when he was eleven years old. He was
approved as a Teishitsu-gigeiin, a Craftman to the Imperial
Household in 1906 and received a command to make a gunto for the
Emperor Meiji in the next year. Sadakazu passed away in 1918, aged
73. Sadakazu’s second son, Sadakatsu was also a famous
swordsmith. Sadakatsu’s third son succeeded the name Sadakazu as
the Second was approved an important intangible cultural assets
known as Ningen-kokuho in the postwar Japan.

Koshirae : Figo mounting.
Saya :red color is himeji style.
Tsuba :On the oval shape iron plate, a dragon is engraved by Nunome
zogan. Sticky bullion is wonderful and dragon is The design that
interesting and never gets tired of the work called. Jingo.
Menuki : A tiger is engraved by nice color Shakudo plate.
Kojiri:On the iron plate, a dragon is engraved by gold Nunome zpgan(inlay)
Fuchikashira: On the iron plate, dragon is engraved by gold nunome zogan(inlay)
from aoi bijyutsu:This sword is wide and thick with small sori and longer
kissaki which is typical Late Edo period sword shape. the blade is
heavy 952grams and long sword which is very healthy nice quality.
From the Hamachi area to the Yokote line, cyoji midare continued and
Boshi is midarekomi style and turns back.
Tsuba is nice Jingo style interesting design.
other Kojiri, Fuchikashira are also nice fittings.I think this Koshitae was
made at late Edo period which is very attractive Higo Koshirae.
We recommend nice sword and Koshirae.

Gassan Tadakazu is father of Gassan Sadakatsu and well known Jyo Jyo
saku ranking quite well known swordsmith, We recommend strongly
this sword and Koshirae.
