Special feature: Sadakazu was born with the name Gassan Yagoro. He
born in 1836 at Hikone in Koshu province, present Shiga
pref. He became an adopted son of Gassan Sadakichi who
lived at Osaka. Sadakazu started to learn about forging
sword when he was eleven years old. He was choose as a
Teishitsu-Gigei-in(imperial artist), a crafter who can
worked in the Imperial House in 1906
and received a command to make a
Gunto for the Meiji Emperor in the next year.
There are only 2 swords smith are Teishitsu-Gigei-
in. Sadakazu and Miyamoto Kanenori.
Sadakazu passed away in 1918, aged 73.
Sadakazu’s second son, Sadakatsu was also a famous
swordsmith.

From Aoi Art: It is believed that this was made by Gassan Sadakazu in his
later years with his son Sadakatsu. The upside-down Choji-
Midare Hamon reminiscent of Aoe is a bright and clear work
that has a nice Ashi and a bright and clear scent, and the
Sakasa-Choji-Midare emerges. It can be said that this work is
extremely healthy with 5cm of Ubuha remaining. Four years
after this work was produced, he was appointed as an
imperial artist in April 1906

Back ground of age:Around the 7th year of the Meiji era, the Haitō Edict
was issued, and Gassan Tadakazu continued to make
swords while walking on the path of hardship. Before
the start of the Sino-Japanese War in 1894, Japan
became an era of high ranking soldiers, and officers
began to hold Japanese swords, and the production of
Japanese swords was permitted. Gassan Tadakazu
began to make many swords, especially Japanese
swords for the general class. It is said that the number
of Japanese sword makers has decreased extremely
since many sword smiths have lost their jobs since the
abolition of the sword decree. This sword maintains
the soundness of the time it was made, so I would
definitely recommend it. This sword will be good
investment sword in the future.
Because the sword is very healthy.Because it has the
same soundness as when it was made.
