Era: The late Kamakura period
Features: We call the swordsmith clan “Katayama Ichimonji” because Norifusa from Fukuoka Ichimonji school moved to Katayama. Katayama is said to have been in Bizen or Bicchu artist, but it is not clear. Norifusa’s works have several deffrent styles of inscription, and its styles varies widely, so it is said that there were not only one Norifusa but several generations.
Their characteristics are strong and bright Jigane and smaller Chojimidare with small particles of Ashi in Ha.

From Aoi Art: This sword doesn’t have Hi in Shindig-ji, so You can enjyoy the Jigane well. The sword has a reversed Choji with well-defined legs, which makes it look more like Yoshioka Ichimonji than Katayama as indicated on the sayagaki of the spare Saya. However it passed Juyo Token as Katayama Ichimonji. This sword has been polished to the highest quality, the jigane is very beautiful, and the Hamon is well drawn out. Katayama Ichimonji is said to have been active from the late Kamakura period to the early Muromachi period. This work is thought to have been made in the late Kamakura period.
