Sayagaki(translation): 11-character long Mei of Soshi Chikuzen Daijo Taikei Fuji Naotane +Kao. It has also a production date of Bunsei 6. He practiced the theory of revival to Koto(Fukkoron), that his master has advocated. This work is a true masterpiece of Bizenden. Probably, it is a trace of Osafune Kagemitsu, an old piece of Koto, and has elaborate Jigane and squared Gunome/Midare of mainly one-side sunken Gunome, and Mimasaka-ish Boshi. It is truly well-made. Length: 2 Shaku 3 Sun 1 Bu. Written by Tanzan.

Shape : The blade is normally thick and broad with deep Sori and longer Kissaki. It has thick edge(good Nikuoki) and the texture of surface is really smooth.
Jigane : Koitamehada is grained well with Jinie. Beautiful Jigane with Utsuri.
Hamon : Niedeki Gunomemidare with Chojimidare, becomes bright. Sunagashi and Kinsuji work. Boshi turns back in a small circle like Mimasaka.

Special feature: This work is a masterpiece of Kagemitsu trace. Kagemitsu is a child of Nagamitsu, and he developed one-side sunk Gunome. His production extends the Kagen era of the late Kamakura period to the Kenbu era of the Nambokucho period: around 30 years. His style was calmer than NAgamitsu. This work has really fine Koitamehada and bright squared Gunomemidare and Ko-Chojimidare, and elaborate Kitae. True masterpiece. Naotane was born in Uzen Province of Yamagata. He was called Soshi Minobei and his smithname was Taikei. He became a pupil of Suishinshi Masahide and served Akimoto Ko as his master did. He succeeded to Chikuzen Daijo in Bunsei 4 or 5, and changed to Mino Kami in Kaei 1. He passed away on the 7th of May, Ansei 4, at the age of 79. He was also really good at blade-engraving.

From Aoi Art: He made this work at the age of 45, in Bunsei 6. That means, his skill had to be the best in his life. It is a trace of Kagemitsu, which has also Utsuri. This sword deserves to be called as the best masterpiece of his sword tracing Kagemitsu, and it was designated as the 66th Juyo Token by NBTHK. We truly recommend this to you.
