Special feature:Ubu nakago (original shape) of Kyusyu Higo Do-tanuki
Genzaemon is a valuable and extremely long naginata. Do-tanuki school
was a school that started in Higo (present-day Kumamoto prefecture)
at the end of the old sword as the end of Enjyu, and was active as
swordsmiths of Kato Kiyomasa. Masakuni and Kiyokuni, who received
the word “清” Kiyo from Kiyomasa清正, are famous. Others cut only the
common name. In addition to Kato kiyomasa’s favorite magnificent
combat sword, Yari and Naginata for field battles were also produced
considerably. During the Edo period, the descendants of Masakuni
revived. This work is by Do-tanuki Genzaemon, who was active around
the end of the Muromachi period, around Keicho. In addition to the
long blade length, Ubu nakago is very valuable and shows that it has
been treated with great care for many years. Other Dotanuki
Genzaemon works include those with Kikuchi Jyu and those with the
years of Bunroku and Keicho.

From Aoi Art :Kato kiyomasa prefers this first practical solid sword for
delicate swords, producing stronger fighting swords, Naginata, Yari
was ordered by his subordinate Do-tanuki school to produce. Kato
Kiyamasa A military commander from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to
the early Edo period, and even today in Kumamoto, Higo Province is
associated with the Tokugawa clan, who is known as Kiyomasa. Given
one countryHigo and a part of Bungo, he became the lord of
Kumamoto. However, in the peaceful era of the Edo period, Do
Tanuki’s rugged work became useless and became obsolete. However,
nowadays, many people are looking for this rugged and wild work, and
its popularity is increasing.
There are few Ubu (original shape) works in the wild Do tanuki Naginata,
so I would definitely recommend it. The Sword museum has been
certified as a Tokubetsu Hozon Token because of its good quality.
